365 Days in Horse Country – Planning Vaccinations

When it comes to protecting your horse’s health, vaccinations should be at the top of your list.  A number of very contagious and debilitating diseases regularly circulate throughout the equine population.  Vaccines are the best way to stop the spread of these diseases and to prevent your horses from contracting them.

The best way to determine which vaccines your horse should get is to discuss the matter with your veterinarian.

Horses are prone to different illnesses at different times of the year and in different regions.  Your vet can make the best recommendations and help you develop a vaccination schedule that makes the most sense for your horse based on the region in which you live.

Regardless of where you live, your vet will likely recommend the following vaccinations on a regular basis; tetanus, flu/rhino, West Nile Virus, and encephalitis.
